You said

"Take another x-ray of a lateral view."

Good move!  That is exactly what you should do because, besides bordering on malpractice NOT to take two views of a patient, you may be fooled by what you see if you don't.  The kitty is already on the x-ray table, so it would be unreasonable not to take that second view.
