You obtained a small amount of tissue under anesthesia, guided by the x-ray you took, and sent the sample to a Board Certified Veterinary Pathologist for histopathological evaluation.  This is called "taking a biopsy".  Here is the report you received...

DESCRIPTION:  Expansile osteolysis of the left distal tibia with active periosteal reaction and associated soft tissue swelling.  
DIAGNOSIS:  Osteosarcoma
RECOMMEND:  Chest radiographs to evaluate for metastasis.  Consider limb amputation and chemotherapy.
